Our Chief Executive Officer, Chief Distribution Officer and Head of Commercial Business recently participated in a familiarisation programme at the SOMPO HQ in Tokyo, Japan. Organised by Berjaya Sompo Insurance, they were also joined by other members of the senior management team from SOMPO Holdings (Asia), PGS SOMPO Insurance Corporation, CIMB Bank Berhad and CIMB Bank Philippines.   

The programme allowed the participants some time to explore opportunities and best practices of the Bancassurance market in Japan. It also showcased different business areas and shared success stories in Japan including digital, cyber risk management and other distribution channels.

The first day began with an overview of SOMPO’s global strategy and the best practices of the bancassurance business at SOMPO Japan, encompassing efficient organisation structures and effective sales models. The following day, the group visited Toshiba Insurance Service at Kawasaki-City in Kanagawa Prefecture for worksite marketing, to better understand the worksite model in Japan. The programme then continued at SOMPO HQ, where it looked at global corporate customer strategies and cyber risk management. On the final day of the trip, the group explored digital innovation and visited the Google office in Roppongi and Amazon Web Services in Shinagawa.
