Sompo Japan Nipponkoa Welfare Foundation Awards Grant to Special Children Society (SCSOA) of Ampang

Kuala Lumpur, 24 January, 2017 – Sompo Japan Nipponkoa Welfare Foundation aims to contribute to the improvement of welfare and culture and provides grants mainly to non profit organizations (NPOs) which focus on children and adults with disabilities and the elderly. It also gives awards to recognize academic literature on social welfare, and subsidies to academic researches and cultural activities.

The Foundation launched the grant program for overseas social welfare organizations in 2010 as an extension of financial support program for social welfare organizations in Japan. This international grant program aims for the improvement of social welfare in overseas countries and supports NPOs in eligible countries that work for the social welfare. The grants were awarded to organizations based on a set of guidelines on the social welfare activities they participated in. For Malaysia, Special Children Society of Ampang (SCSOA), Selangor has been selected to receive the grant amount of RM40,000.

SCSOA is a registered non-profit society that educates and cares for 70 mentally and some physically challenged children and young adults. The children’s needs are many and varied, ranging from equipment, to care and training. Currently, it is undergoing extension to build four more classrooms to accommodate the growing demand of the center. In addition, a 10KWP solar system will be installed at the cost of RM84,000 and with this it hopes to generate income over the next 21 years that will partially help to support this center.
