We understand that the recent escalation of conflict in the Middle East has created uncertainty and concern for many travellers. Following the latest developments, Wisma Putra has advised Malaysians to postpone all non-essential travel to several affected countries due to volatile security conditions and airspace disruptions.

As the situation continues to evolve, we have compiled the following FAQ to guide you on how this may impact your Secure Travel coverage and travel plans.

Wisma Putra has issued a travel advisory urging Malaysians to postpone all non-essential travel to the Middle East due to military strikes and volatile security conditions.

The situation currently affects the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Jordan, Syria, Iran, Iraq, Kuwait, Bahrain and Saudi Arabia at the time of issuance of this FAQ.

Please note: The advisory and list of affected countries are subject to change and may be updated as the situation evolves. Travellers are encouraged to check the latest announcements from Wisma Putra before making any travel decisions.

Yes — in light of the evolving security situation in the Middle East, many airlines have suspended flights and Wisma Putra has strongly advised Malaysians to postpone non-essential travel.

To support affected travellers, we will allow a full premium refund for cancellation of Secure Travel (Single Trip) policies provided that:

  1. The cancellation is due to the Middle East conflict, including affected transit points (e.g. airport closures, suspended connecting flights, or rerouting through impacted areas);
  2. No claim has been made under the policy;
  3. The refund request is submitted during the affected period; and
  4. The trip has not commenced at the time of the cancellation request.

If you choose to revise your travel dates or itinerary to the affected cities instead, the existing policy will be cancelled and a new policy issued to reflect the updated trip details.

This approval applies to cancellation requests received from 28 February 2026 and is granted without the usual requirement for a replacement policy to be issued.

No. War and military conflict are excluded under Secure Travel policy clauses. Therefore, flight cancellations, trip cancellations, or losses to ground arrangements arising from the current conflict — or solely due to government travel advisories — are not covered.

Airlines are required by aviation regulators to provide assistance, such as rebooking or refunds, where applicable.

You can claim Travel Delay only if:

  • The delay meets the minimum hours stated in your policy; and
  • The delay is not caused by war or government action.

If the rerouting is due to war / military-related airspace closures, such delays will not be claimable.

Malaysia Airlines has suspended flights to these cities due to regional airspace closures. As the root cause is war-related, such losses are not claimable under the policy. If you are travelling to these cities via Malaysia Airlines in the coming weeks, please stay updated on the latest announcements from Malaysia Airlines concerning this matter.

No. Rerouting expenses arising from the Middle East conflict are not covered and will not be eligible for claims.

You may claim if:

  • The delay is caused by the airline;
  • You receive written confirmation from the airline; and
  • The cause is not war-related.

If the delay results from airspace closure linked to the ongoing conflict in Middle East, it is not covered.

Flight suspensions resulting from airspace closures linked to war-related activities fall under the war exclusion clause and are not covered.

Yes. Non-war-related medical expenses generally remain covered (on a reimbursement basis), provided you are travelling in an area that has not been officially declared unsafe or excluded.

However, any claims directly or indirectly arising from war-related situations are excluded.

If you are travelling to a Middle East destination not currently listed in Wisma Putra’s advisory and not declared unsafe or excluded, your coverage remains valid. Should the destination later be added to the advisory list, coverage limitations may apply.
