Purposeful Social Initiatives Promoting Diversity and Inclusivity
As an integral part of Berjaya Sompo's overarching commitment to a sustainable future, particularly within the Social pillar of our ESG mission, we have undertaken a series of purposeful initiatives. These initiatives are designed with the noble intention of fostering diversity and inclusivity within our society. This page is a heartfelt tribute to all those remarkable individuals who have played an active and invaluable role in helping us turn our aspirations into tangible reality.

Scholarship and Welfare Programmes
BSIB Rising Star Scholarship Programme
This programme aims to provide high-potential youths with the opportunity to pursue higher education and develop their career with us. Scholars are selected through a rigorous process that assesses their academic excellence, passion for achieving greater success and demonstrating the potential for growth. Our scholarship awards prioritise those from disadvantaged socio-economic backgrounds. In 2023, BSIB awarded three students with this scholarship and will consistently continue in the future.
Scholarships and Welfare Programmes
Sompo Welfare Foundation grant to SeventeaOne
Seven Tea One was selected to be one of the grant recipients of the Sompo Welfare Foundation as part of our continuous effort towards programmes aimed at equipping individuals with disabilities and skill sets that will improve their employability opportunities. The foundation provided a grant amounting RM32,000 which funded the setting up of a Halal-certified production center that assisted Seven Tea One to increase its market growth by supplying Halal-certified healthy infusion herbal blends for a growing community seeking natural, wellness and Halal-friendly beverages.
Education and Promote Literacy
Partnership with Yayasan Generasi Gemilang to Reach Out to B40 Communities Through Outreach Programmes and Volunteerism
Since 2022, BSIB has been partnering with Yayasan Generasi Gemilang to educate and provide basic needs to vulnerable communities by assisting in their livelihood and providing learning opportunities to the children in the B40 community. We have been involved in 9 CSR activities and a total of 30 volunteers since 2022.

Autism Month Sale
In conjunction with Autistic Awareness Month (in April 2023), BSIB supported Persatuan Stand's (STAND) pie sale by organising a group purchase within the organisation. STAND provides specialised training and employment to young adults with special needs by producing pies based on orders received. There were various pie flavours on sale, such as Mushroom Chicken, Beef Rendang, Chicken Curry, and Apple Crumble, to name a few. Held on 13th April 2023, STAND sold a total of 170 pies, generating revenue of RM1,135.

Blood Donation Campaign
As a continuous effort, BSIB has organised a series of quarterly Blood Donation Campaign with Tabung Darah Negara since 2022. A total of more than 150 blood pints donated since 2022 and will continue this campaign as we believe that Safe blood saves lives. Blood is the most precious gift that anyone can give to another person – the gift of life, especially during the festive seasons due to the high demand and increase in number of incidents.
ESG Awareness Programmes
Ride Safe with Berjaya Sompo (2023)
BSIB Snap & Menang road safety campaign was held in Aug & Sept 2023 to encourage the importance of safe and responsible riding among motorcyclists. The campaign was inspired by Yulina, an influencer and motor racer, sharing her experience on the importance of safe and responsible riding. The contest invited entries on the most stylish photos with motorcycle, helmet, and safety gear and to share on the importance of insurance and safe riding practices.
BSIB also collaborated with the Yamaha Racing Team as the main sponsor for the Berjaya Sompo Yamaha Y16ZR Race Masterclass at the 2023 Malaysian Superbike Championship (MSBK) and the official sponsor of the AEON Credit Service Yamaha 135LC Tekhne Challenge at the 2023 PETRONAS Malaysian Cub Prix (MCP) Championship. The goal of the collaboration was to raise awareness of road safety and responsible riding among our communities.

Berjaya Sompo Foster Safe Riding
In May 2023, BSIB participated in "Kempen Keselamatan Jalan Raya Balik Kampung" organised by Hong Leong Yamaha Motor Sdn. Bhd. (“HLYM”) and the Malaysia Motorcycle Scooter Dealers Association (“MMSDA”). The objective is to mainly promote road safety awareness amongst young motorcyclists, especially in the two weeks leading up to the Hari Raya festive season. It emphasises the importance of proper maintenance, adhering to speed limits, and safe defensive riding practices.
The talks were held at four local higher learning universities and attracted over 300 participants. Organised for the 25th year, the campaign has gained recognition and support from various government agencies, including the Ministry of Transport Malaysia.

Balik Kampung Vehicle Inspection Event
In line with BSIB’s Vision of 'We Are Here With You', we collaborated with PERWAKIM (Persatuan Wakil-Wakil Insuran Am Malaysia) to organise a “Balik Kampung Vehicle Inspection” campaign. BSIB sponsored 90 cars for inspection which was conducted by PUSPAKOM. The service entailed basic checking of vehicles to ensure safe traveling during the upcoming Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebration. All vehicle owners received an inspection report which showed the performance of vehicle parts and the overall condition of the vehicle for reference.
Branding Campaigns
Employees Engagement Initiatives
BSIB continues to conduct employee and agency engagement initiatives in 2023 with the objective to enhance awareness and understanding of ESG. Communication, campaign, and awareness activities are shared through our internal BSIB newsletter (BSompo Buzz), Workplace platform and Agency Newsletter with the intention of influencing behaviour and mindset in line with the Company’s Sustainability aspiration and direction.
Branding Campaigns
The Good Policy Campaign
A brand campaign named “Good Policy Campaign” was launched at the end of September 2023, centering on BSIB’s ESG initiatives. Part of the campaign is the “The Good Bengkel programme” which aims to promote inclusivity and empower individuals to enjoy safe driving in a well-maintained car. BSIB offered a subsidy of RM250 for car repairs for individuals in the B40 income segment, who often face financial difficulties when it comes to maintaining their vehicles. There will be a lined-up of upcoming campaigns and initiatives in 2024.
ESG Awareness Programmes
ESG Month 2023
In August, with the theme “Embracing Sustainability Culture”, the SSC held various activities with the objective of raising awareness and understanding on ESG & Sustainability. The month was filled with series of awareness programmes and engagement activities. Staff were also required to sit for a mandatory e-Learning “Introduction on ESG” throughout the month and the completion rate of the learning was at 100% and all staff passed the course assessment. The objective was to create awareness and instill ESG in staff daily lives and understanding importance towards the business.
The month-long event received a high participation rate and contribution as well as support from the Management. It has created visibility and awareness towards ESG which has proven that the company is committed towards realizing its purpose of creating a journey to a sustainable future.
